The Summit

When the pandemic hit it felt like the entire planet just stopped.  What didn’t stop was the love and passion that Joe and Randy Cruz of Hoops in the Sun, had for their community.  Like everybody else, they were forced to cancel their summer ‘20 season as the world figured out a solution to Covid-19.  They say that genius ideas usually happen during times of chaos and that’s exactly what happened when “The Summit” was born.

The Summit was created to give kids an opportunity to be active during a time when it was easy for kids to lose focus on physical health.  Even with no basketball being played, The Summit was able to give kids ages 6-18 the ultimate workout, utilizing the beach as a training ground.  This year they are back and better than ever!  They provide basketball, sand workouts, boxing, Yoga as well as strength and conditioning sessions.  This year The coaches and instructors follow strict CDC guidelines and is a safe place for youth to get a great workout in.

Working out on the beach is something that is unique to this program.  Working out on the sand helps build your strength, stabilizing muscles and coordination.  the soft surface of sand absorbs more energy, so instead of experiencing a helpful rebound effect as you would on pavement, you sink deeper and your muscles have to engage longer to push off.  The kids work with high-level trainers and the results are seen over the course of the 6 week period.  Participants not only receive great instruction from high-level instructors, but they also receive some great products courtesy of Solepack.

Because they understand that the entire family is important, the Summit also provides parents with an opportunity to work out as well.  They provide a one-hour intensive Nutrizone workout and Yoga session.    The Summit also is a place where kids have a chance to meet current and former NBA players and participate in Q&A sessions.  Where else would you rather be?!
