Streets First Podcast: From the Parks to Wall Street

The Streets First podcast is the first of its kind. Never before have we had a podcast dedicated to NYC Basketball. The two host B Bowen and Streetball’s own A Butta do a great job interviewing Prominent NYC Basketball legends. They effortlessly manage to intertwine the basketball world with the entertainment industry while keeping an honest and candid dialogue with some heavy hitters. They manage to bring you never heard before stories from those involved in the NYC basketball scene, during what many are calling NYC’s golden era of basketball.
Bowen & A Butta get the chance to sit down with some elite company. Some of my favorite interviews were of Andre Barrett, Mousey of the Tri-State Classic, and Chris Gotti of Murder Inc, who during the hay day of Streetball at Rucker Park in the early 2000’s, managed to somehow bring out Kobe Bryant, Baron Davis and other pros.  Yes…we’re talking about THAT Kobe.  There was no Twitter or Instagram to spread the word.  News of Kobe being at Rucker spread through Harlem like wildfire.  I remember getting a phone call from a friend saying that I shouldn’t even bother going to the park because Kobe was there and they had to shut it down and deny entry to any more people.  People scrambled, climbed gates, and did whatever it took to witness this game.  You simply had to be there to witness or you missed it. There were only a handful of elite teams playing Unlimited at the Rucker and Murder Inc was one of those teams. It became a competition that stretched beyond the basketball court. This became a personal feud based on who can bring the most professional basketball players to the court.  The spectators who watched the games were the ones to benefit as their favorite basketball players were playing on their turf, the park.  It was better than going to the Garden to watch a game at that time.

They’re just getting warmed up with the Streetsfirst podcast. Expect a star studded cast as Bowen and A Butta are only giving the streets what they want to hear. This podcast is a must if you love basketball. The culture of NYC basketball was lost for a long time and I’m glad that StreetsFirst is resurrecting those glory days.  Although Rucker Park still host games during the summer, its just not the same.  Be sure to Subscribe to the StreetsFirst YouTube page and follow @StreetsFirstPodcast on Instagram to hear all information and updates.
