running training help/advice?

hi- i’m 15 and play basketball for my high school and we run the mile every other day after practice. and im not that good at the mile. im good at sprinting but for some reason on long distance i do really bad. we work our way down from 10 mins to 6:45 during the preseason for condition. i want to start practicing now, but im thinking of starting tomorrow and running a mile tomorrow and running 1 mile every morning until we really do it for real during preseason. i was wondering if 1 mile per day is enough to get me down to around 6:20-6:45 every mile we run. thanks please help me find a workout plan that’ll help me not be tired and make me run a faster mile than i ever did before.

run the mile once a day 4-5 days a week. don’t do it every day because then you will burn yourself out and never have time to recover. drink lots of water before you run not to get cramps, then do a 3-5 minute jog as a warm up. after that stretch out. you should stretch out after the warm up and not before (remember this because stretching out before is almost useless) when you are done with your workout then do a cool down (same as the warm up) and stretch again not to be sore the next day. get a watch to time yourself and preferably do this at a nearby track at a high school. make sure your running shoes aren’t very old and worn out. a eat stuff with protein and after your workout drinking a glass of chocolate milk can help you muscles recover quicker then normal. good luck with running
