Playcause: Play for Something Greater

Giving to your favorite charity feels good, there’s no denying that.  Charitable initiatives can have a great impact on your state of mind, and help people who are in need.  They always say it’s better to give than receive and for athletes, Playcause would be the perfect platform to use to do so.  Everybody needs to know about this great organization based out of San Francisco, California.  This organization is special because it gives athletes the opportunity to compete in sports leagues and raise money to help a specific cause.  Whether that cause is a children’s hospital that someone has a personal connection with or simply raising funds for a traveling basketball team, Playcause allows an athlete to raise money, engage fans across the various social media platforms to encourage donations and helps a team or individual reach new audiences by means of a targeted marketing campaign.

Co-Founders Felix Do and Peter Lee reflecting on a strategy to get more people involved and interested in their business model.

When someone is competing for a bigger cause other than simply winning the game it really is inspirational.  It gives a person a sense of purpose and drives them to leave every ounce of energy on the floor.  Sports like Basketball has always been known to have the power to bring out the good in people.  Throughout the country you can hear about people putting charity basketball games together to support a particular cause.  Philanthropy isolates the beauty in something, leaving all negative details briefly aside.  Playcause has created the platform for this philanthropy to be spread throughout the public by way of the internet and social media.  Check out the interview that I conducted with Co-Founder Peter Lee below.

Playcause is funded by a mixture of sports enthusiasts, former professional athletes and other donors.  They aim to assist leagues, tournaments and teams by establishing a method for athletes to give back and have a little fun while doing so.  In this day and age social media allows fans and athletes to interact.  So how better than to use that platform as the primary vehicle to generate a buzz about doing something good for charity.  With platforms like Twitter and Instagram, spreading the word about anything is just a couple of clicks away.  In just a few moments can word about a charity campaign spread like wildfire.  So far, Playcause has partnered up with some well known basketball leagues around the country including but not limited to Venice Basketball League, Aces, Hoopsville Basketball League and The Drew League.  They aim to spread awareness of their company and expand their presence in the coming months.
